Religion vs. Science: A Musing – 08/16/07
Back before mathematics and the metric system were invented, we looked at the stars and planets to explain were we came from and how. And we called them gods.
When (why is a whole other rant), religion turned its focus inward on Man and ignored the universe, a new skool had to be created, to deal with that mysterious dark thing that cloaks the sky at night.
Science had a funny start, the periodic table at the time featured only 5 elements (one occulted) and it was believed that metal could turn into gold, just as a man could be turned into a god (again occulted).
Things turned out pretty good for Science though, more and more things became “provable” truths that can be used against it’s wacky opponent religion, beating it into the nonsense-schizo-hippy found today in the “new age” section of the bookstore.
Not knowing everything is hard, even for Science. Today, it is becoming the mirror-image of the schizo-hippy when it mumbles out its latest theories on the universe, but to the delight of the modern day New-Ager, the ideas are just as crazy and unprovable as they read in their Deepak Chopra hardcovers.
What we are left with are one side putting their faith in tiny strings/ giant hyper dimensional branes that touch sometimes and the other side in god.
It’s a good fight. I’m not taking sides, though. It is a lot of fun to cheer for the other guy, while sitting with the fans. Cause if you ask me, it’s going to be a draw.
